About This Day Tour

Materuni village sits in the green foothills above Moshi, on the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro. The day pairs a gentle guided hike through Chagga farmland to the base of an 80-metre waterfall with a hands-on coffee experience: picking, peeling, roasting over a fire, pounding to the rhythm of a Chagga work song and finally drinking the result with a home-cooked lunch. It is the single best half-day introduction to local life around the mountain.

Good for

First-time visitors to Moshi, culture-focused travellers and acclimatisation days before a climb.

Highlights

  • Guided walk to the base of Materuni's 80 m waterfall
  • Swim in the cool plunge pool if you are brave enough
  • Roast, pound and brew Chagga coffee with a local family
  • Home-cooked Tanzanian lunch in the village
  • Views over Moshi and the Kilimanjaro foothills
